After recent conversations with clients in the City of London, it has become clear that Payroll has evolved into a far more specialist profession with a global skill set. However, the worrying fact is that too many have been chasing the international dream and not keeping their skills and knowledge up to date within UK payroll, and in some cases have been happy to let it go completely.
“Never forget where you come from” is a sentence that has been tried and tested and proven to be right on so many occasions - and in Payroll this is more relevant than people think.
Clients want so much from a Payroll professional but the main criteria is that right now they are looking for someone who is a true expert within UK payroll first and foremost and then have the EMEA/LATAM/APAC specialist piece on-top.
The candidate market is strong and the talent out there is the best that it has been for some time, but clients are really looking for someone with strong basics, including up-to-date UK legislation and someone that is also processing the UK side of things whilst keeping their finger on the pulse.
