Market Update – Interim
As we approach the end of the year, we are seeing a noticeable increase in interim HR hiring across the London market, driven largely by budget restrictions and preparation for year-end performance cycles. Organisations are looking for short-term support ranging from junior HR Administrators who can provide additional operational capacity, through to HR Business Partners who can help maintain momentum on strategic projects.
A key trend is the high demand for Employee Relations specialists, as firms seek expertise to manage both high-volume BAU casework and more complex organisational change activity. In financial and professional services particularly, there has been a marked rise in the need for ER professionals skilled in redundancy management, restructuring initiatives, and organisational design. This reflects a broader focus on risk mitigation, compliance, and maintaining employee engagement through periods of change.
At the more senior end of the market, we are also seeing growth in fractional CPO and senior HR leadership assignments. These leaders are being brought in to stabilise HR functions, embed core processes, and define best practice in environments where leadership continuity or maturity is still developing.
The flexibility of interim and fractional roles continues to appeal to both employers and experienced HR professionals seeking project-based work. As a result, the interim market remains active and agile despite wider economic caution.
