How to start your HR career in Financial Services

No matter what industry you work in, a Human Resources department is a critical component of employee well-being in any business, no matter how small, and it takes certain characteristics to be a good HR Professional. Excellent communication skills are paramount, as well as the ability to be impartial and objective in situations. Another crucial skill set for any HR professional is the ability to problem solve, negotiate and manage conflict. The HR department are often seen as ambassadors, and will partner with the business to add value from a commercial point of view. They emulate the values of the organisation and are privy to sensitive company information, as well as being relied upon to be trustworthy and discreet.

The Financial Services industry has been known as one of the more difficult industries to get into due to the tough criteria candidates need to meet. In the past, you would need a good academic degree from a red brick university to even stand a chance.
