Nelson Mandela Day – Sunday 18th July

This Sunday, 18th July is Nelson Mandela Day – an international day of honour to a man who devoted his life to the service of humanity. No matter how small your action, Mandela Day is about changing the world for the better, and celebrating the idea that everyone has the power to transform the world and the ability to make an impact.

So, in honour of his 67 years of public service let us spend 67 minutes of our time helping and supporting others in what has been a very challenging time.

Bid & Contracts Manager, Bronwynn Joyce-Woodcock writes:

“I am deeply saddened to hear of the recent events taking place in my country. I was 10 years old when Mandela’s electoral victory signified the end of apartheid in South Africa. Fast forward to the 21st century with scenes of unrest, protests, and violence – I find it all not too dissimilar? South Africa is a beautiful country and although it may look broken now, it can be rebuilt, better and stronger together. Let us not forget the legacy of a man who dedicated his life to fighting for equality and justice and who was known as the founding father of peace to a nation.

“It is so easy to break down and destroy. The heroes are those who make peace and build.” – Nelson Mandela.

My thoughts are with the communities, individuals and families who have been most affected by the unrest that has unfolded over the past few days.”
