Martine Wright….

Gave a truly inspirational talk at the Changeboard Conference yesterday.  Martine lost both legs (and very nearly her life) in the 7/7 terrorist atrocities. She is now captain of the Paralympic ladies volley ball team:

She lives by a philosophy she terms “The Power of Seven”…..I thought it was quite powerful and resonates with the bit I mentioned on Friday re “choices”….

  1. CHOICES – you can chose to be what you want and how you live your life
  2. MAXIMISE (any) OPPORTUNITY – always be the best you can
  3. EMBRACE CHANGE – change brings opportunity
  4. THE POWER OF SPORT – ambition, drive, confidence
  5. TEAMWORK:
    1. RESPECT – all team members are allowed to have a view
    2. TRUST – allow others to be themselves – rely on each other
    3. COMMITMENT – make everyone feel empowered, be dedicated, professional, resilient
    4. COMMS – “agreed preferences” – recognise that people are all individual and need treating in different ways
  6. TEAM “ME” – you should focus on being personally great – it’s allowed! Makes a stronger team player…
  7. BELIEF – believe in yourself

Final quotes….

“It’s not what happens to you, it’s about how you deal with things that happen to you”

“Choose to be the best you can”

“Anything is possible, as long as you believe”
