Increasing Workplace Resilience with Compassion- Leading Yourself

There couldn’t have been a more appropriate time to hold a conversation around “Increasing Workplace resilience with Compassion- Leading Yourself”

Nick Bloy, Founder of WELLBEING Republic Limited, kindly spoke to a group of senior HR professionals around the importance of prioritising wellbeing and self-care first as a leader in a time when people are struggling with their wellbeing and mental health.

Nick shared several studies that highlighted that individuals function at a much higher level, deliver outstanding work and are less inclined to burn out when they feel supported and cared for with an organisation.

We discussed key concerns people are currently facing in their organisation. A lot were focused around the impact COVID-19 is having on people’s teams. Stress, anxiety and fear have all increased, some more than 30% since 9th March.

So how do we overcome these issues? Some of the ideas that came out of Wednesday’s session were:

  • Prioritise self-care
  • Try and shift the focus to something more positive
  • Write down worries/concerns to help aid a good night sleep
  • Call a friend
  • Breathing exercises
  • Focus on what you can control – make an action plan

What came out of the discussion was that showing empathy, vulnerability and having the courage to care will go a long way in this current climate.

As a group, it was great to sound out and discuss how we can face these obstacles and ensure as HR professionals we are creating an environment of trust and compassion to increase resilience.  Nick, thank you again for a thought-provoking session.
