Another fantastic HR Networking event for Oakleaf Birmingham!

Last week we held our third HRD and HR Leader Evening for 2017, joint hosted by Eversheds Sutherland, and joined by some of the leading HR professionals in the Midlands. The evening was focused on gaining a greater understanding of millennials and how to attract and retain the best talent.

We talked about the attributes of an employer of choice, with many of the group agreeing that ethical employers that operate in a collegiate way are attractive, whilst companies that offer travel opportunities are also very exciting. CSR came up as a really important area, as well as employers who offer flexible working options.

We also discussed the most important incentives an employer can offer to attract talent, and again flexibility and agility came up as important issues. Financial incentives are of course important, in particular pension schemes, as well as the prospect of helping employees save for a mortgage deposit. Many of the attendees mentioned the importance of culture and values in an organisation.

Another topic discussed was why employees look for new roles and opportunities, with lack of challenges, respect and support emerging as the main motivators, as well as poor line management.

On the flip side to this, in terms of rewarding success many individuals look for development opportunities, extra holiday to allow for travel as well as personal development opportunities.

We will be publishing a more detailed analyse of our findings from the evening in due course. If you would be interested in attending future events then please contact Oakleaf Birmingham on 0121 270 4639.
