How do we best attract and retain talent in the current Retail market?

As the second round table event in our Retail calendar this year, on Wednesday 20th November Oakleaf were pleased to host a fantastic event for Recruitment Professionals for some of the leading Retail, Hospitality and Leisure brands in the UK.

As the media increasingly take claim of new announcements from both high street and online Retailers, it has never been more crucial to ensure positive candidate attraction is at the forefront of the business strategy given the rapid change in consumer behaviour and current candidate pool.

The discussion was led by Paul Hunter, Recruitment Manager at Marks & Spencer who introduced the topic, ‘how do we attract and retain talent within the current Retail climate and how do we plan for the future?”.

The morning lent itself to the sharing of innovative ideas highlighting subject matters such as; how we use digitalisation and technology in candidate targeting methods, ensuring a positive candidate experience especially for those not successful to hire, enabling employees across the business to wear their own ‘recruitment hats’ and how will we stay relevant in the Retail market for the next 20+ years?

An idea that “all candidates in the process are also potential brand ambassadors” received a lot of positive attention from the room and was agreed across all attendees that this should be a focal point in brand recruitment and candidate experience strategies.

We had fantastic feedback from the event and would like to thank Paul for leading this topic and to everyone who attended for bringing together a collaborative and thought-provoking discussion, for what has never been more relevant than it will be in 2020.

If you would like some more information on any of the above themes or events we hold at Oakleaf, or would like to attend the next event like this, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
